Create your own boro-inspired stitched trivet with this relaxing slow-sewing craft kit.
Inspired by the layered fabrics and visible stitching associated with Japanese boro textiles and sashiko stitching, this kit combines simple running stitches, fabric patches and raw-edge appliqué to create a unique textile trivet, pan rest or even just a piece of art!
There is no need to make yours exactly like the example. The design is deliberately flexible, so you can follow the suggested layout or experiment with your own arrangement and stitching.
The finished trivet measures approximately 20 × 20 cm, with a padded centre and neat fabric border.
Your kit contains:
• All fabric required for the project
• Wadding
• Black and grey sashiko thread
• Needle
• Full-colour illustrated instructions via QR code
You’ll need your own scissors and pins. The final border can be sewn by hand using the supplied thread, or machine stitched if you prefer. If using a sewing machine, you’ll need your own ordinary sewing thread.
This is a lovely introduction to slow stitching and boro-inspired textile work. The beauty is in the handmade character: patches can be left with visible raw edges or turned under for a neater finish, and your stitching does not need to be perfectly uniform.
Once complete, you’ll have a practical handmade trivet for your home — and plenty of scope to use the techniques again with your own fabric scraps.
Perfect for:
• Slow stitching and textile craft lovers
• Sashiko and Japanese-inspired craft enthusiasts
• Adults who enjoy mindful, relaxing crafts
• Creative gifts for sewists and makers
• Anyone looking for a small, achievable hand-sewing project
Please note: This kit makes one trivet – completed size approx. 20x20cm
